Thoughts on The Steppingstone Academy:

The Steppingstone staff taught us to believe in ourselves. I remember my advisor would always tell us, “You’re going to shine at an independent school, I know you will. Just be yourself and you’ll be fine.”

Future plans: I’m going to Brandeis to study education. Steppingstone helped me choose that – I was a Steppingstone Teaching Assistant last summer and I loved it, so I decided to go into education.

"Whenever I need Steppingstone, they are there. They helped me every step to get to where I am today. I wasn't nervous about starting at The Park School - after Steppingstone, I felt ready and prepared for school. I come to Steppingstone's Saturday Mentoring and Study Hall program when I need help, and the volunteer tutors and Steppingstone advisors are there."

Future goals: "I want to be a neurosurgeon. I like to deal with microscopic things. We get to do that every day in science class at Park, as we study organisms, fossils, and the history of the Earth."

"Everyone here at St. Seb's is close. There is no competing for who is better. Steppingstone helped with finding that person inside of me who loves people, and now I am able to connect with all types of people." Edosa plays football, basketball, and lacrosse.

Phi’s advice for Steppingstone Scholars when they start at a new school: "Don’t procrastinate. Get your homework done before anything else. Once you get into a groove, it becomes easier to manage your time and enjoy extracurricular activities as well. I was able to play football and baseball during my first two years at St. Seb’s."

Thayer Academy

On life at Thayer: It's a beautiful school, with lots of open space and tons of opportunities. I've been participating in Model UN, where we've gone to conferences at Harvard and in New York City. In eighth grade we took a trip to Quebec City.

Classes here are fun. In the science labs we get to do everything from make ice cream to learn about the properties of fire. For French class we cook French food and listen to French music, and we can travel abroad during our senior year. For English class, we go see plays at places like the Huntington Theater.

Thayer is very tight-knit community. We have personal connections with our teachers - we can joke with them, as well as learn from them.

While at Thayer, I've challenged myself to try new things: I've taken AP classes, tried running track, taken piano lessons, and sung in the choir.

Future plans: Study chemistry and become a pharmacist
