Will your fourth grader go to college?

We can help.

For Jackson/Mann and Edison K-8 4th graders only: download the application here.

Application Deadline: February 17, 2012

Steppingstone's College Success Academy is designed especially for promising 4th graders in the Jackson/Mann and Edison K-8 Schools who want to go to college.

This free program takes your child by the hand in 4th grade...and doesn't let go until she or he graduates from college.

What is the College Success Academy?
The free College Success Academy program was created in 2010 by The Steppingstone Foundation, which develops programs that prepare students for college success. Since 1990, hundreds of students have participated in Steppingtone programs, and more than 90% of them have enrolled in college. Through the College Success Academy, Steppingstone's goal is to set even more Boston students on the path to college graduation.

Is this program right for your child?
If you want your child to go to college, but you're not sure how to get there, the College Success Academy can help. During a six week summer session and after school during the school year, we work with students who attend the Edison K-8 School and the Jackson/Mann K-8 School and provide them with tools to make sure they thrive in school, enroll in the Boston public high school that's best for them, and reach their goals of college.

Although we have a limited number of openings, any 4th grader can apply. If you have serious interest in seeing your child go to college, we encourage you to submit an application.

How can the College Success Academy help your family?
Getting ready for college starts earlier than you might think. Our five-summer and after-school program helps your child improve in school, develop a passion for learning, and grow up thinking, "Of course I'm going to college!" We also give you, the parents and guardians, the tools you need to help your child realize his or her dreams.

The College Success Academy can help you and your child now and in middle school...
Your child will develop advanced math, reading and writing skills in small classes with individual attention from teachers. For the next five years, you won't have to worry about finding a safe, affordable summer and after-school program for your child. Field trips, fun hands-on projects, technology and other exciting electives will make your child a confident learner.

...and later in high school:
Ninth grade is a challenging year for students as they transition to high school. The College Success Academy advises your child on finding the right Boston Public High School, like Brighton High or Another Course to College. The program follows you and your child throughout high school. Additional benefits include:

  • Tutoring and mentoring services
  • College application and financial aid workshops
  • College tours
  • SAT prep classes
  • Homework assistance
  • Your own personal advisor who helps with choosing classes, finding great summer internships, researching colleges, and applying for financial aid.

Who can apply to the College Success Academy?
Current 4th grade students at the Jackson/Mann K-8 School and Edison K-8 School may apply. We are especially interested in students who plan to stay at these schools through 8th grade.

How much does it cost?
It's free. A small fee is charged for t-shirts and summer bus transportation, and this fee can be waived if it's a hardship for a family.

Is transportation provided?
Yes. College Success Academy provides bus transportation during the summer and school year.

What is the next step?
Call us at 617-423-6300, ext. 234 to request an application and come to one of our January information sessions.
