Applying to Schools

The Steppingstone Academy helps families successfully navigate the application process into an independent, Catholic, or public exam school. We maintain close communication with the feeder (the schools students currently attend) and placement schools (those to which Scholars will apply), as well as with Scholars’ families during all stages of the process. The placement schools’ commitment to Steppingstone Scholars reflects each school’s interest in becoming a more inclusive educational communities.img10

A family’s application process to a new school depends on the type of school the Scholar wishes to attend. In Boston, Scholars hoping to enter placement schools in the sixth grade apply to independent schools in fifth grade; all Scholars seeking seventh or ninth-grade admission can apply to public exam and Catholic schools as well as independent schools. The first step for either application process is to attend “Introduction to Placement” at the orientation meeting in June. Families then schedule an individual meeting with a member of The Steppingstone Academy placement staff. At each of these sessions, families have the opportunity to learn more about the educational options available to them and the process for pursuing those options.

Note: Steppingstone does not provide scholarship funds to those Scholars who choose to attend an independent or Catholic school. The independent schools themselves offer financial aid based on the demonstrated need of each family. Most schools are committed to meeting 100% of an accepted Scholar’s need.
