College Success Academy Site Intern

Program Overview

The College Success Academy, a program of The Steppingstone Foundation prepares and supports students in grades 5-8 to succeed in high school and graduate from college. During the academic year, CSA provides after school programming to 5th and 6th grade students twice per week, to help students with homework, and to further develop their academic and socioemotional learning.

Position Overview

The Site Intern will join a dynamic team of staff and faculty to execute the logistical components of the College Success Academy’s after-school program at the Edison K-8 School in Brighton or the Donald McKay K-8 School in East Boston.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent administrative, organizational and computer skills, as well as outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. We are seeking, motivated, self-starters who bring experience working with adolescent youth. The intern will have the opportunity to interact with Scholars, observe classes and learn from knowledgeable staff. This will be a 9-month contract position at 12 hours/week (minimum), and will begin in late September and continue through the end of May. Spanish speakers are strongly desired. Occasional Saturday work is likely. Salary is $12/hour.

Required Schedule

Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays

Edison Time: 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. (hours include program time and bus supervision)

McKay Time: 2:30 – 6:00 p.m.

Reports to: Site Coordinator, College Success Academy

Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative tasks to support the site director that include, but are not limited to, maintaining daily attendance records, maintaining and organizing site materials, communicating Scholar absences with families
  • Supervise arrival, dismissal, snack and recreational periods
  • Assist in supervising daily study hall
  • Attend monthly faculty meetings
  • Ride the school bus home with Scholars and monitor bus behavior (Brighton)

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates commitment to educational equity and college access
  • Demonstrates competency with Middle School students
  • Demonstrates ability to be flexible and respond appropriately in a fast paced environment
  • Effective project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent cross-cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations
  • Strong interpersonal, phone communication, writing skills, and attention to detail
  • Excellent computer skills (experience with Microsoft Office and Google Apps preferred)
  • Preference given to candidates who are bilingual in Spanish/English
